This is an easy 4km out and back trail located in Boreen Point. It is suitable for walking and is dog friendly.
Lake Cootharaba is a shallow salt water lake on the northern end of the Sunshine coast. It is a quiet small township that comes alive during sailing regattas. There are picnic tables and toilets along the foreshore along with a general store, coffee shop and the Apollonian hotel.
Activities: Walking, playground, swim, water activities, dog walking.
Parking: Along foreshore there is some street parking. I started from the boat ramp at the end of Urunga Pde, Boreen Point, but there is also parking near campground along the Esplanade.
Lake Cootharaba is popular for sailing & windsurfing and water activites. Weekends can be busy if there is a sailing event on, but otherwise it is generally very quiet.
The Trail
This walk doesn’t have a specific trail or track, I simply walked along the foreshore from one end to the other enjoying the peace and serenity of this quaint township.
Lake Cootharaba
Don’t let the colour of the water put you off. The lake water is various shades of brown due to the tea trees that stain the water from the tannin in their leaves. It is often the colour of black tea!
