This is a hard 2.9km out and back trail up Mt Cooroora, the home of King of the Mountain race in Tuchekoi National park, Pomona.
Activities: Walking, running, hiking, mountain climb.
Parking: Parking along Jampot creek Road, Pomona.
Pomona mountain is a must do at least once as it does feel great to get to the top and is worth the sore legs the following day. I’ve completed this walk 3 times now over the last 25 years and take my hat off to those who do it regularly, and those who run up and down.
View from the top
This is a steep climb and the peak is a 430 metre volcanic plug. It requires a moderate level of fitness and good shoes for climbing over rocks. It’s hard to believe they race up this mountain from Stan topper park to the top and back in record speeds of around 20 mins. We took around an hour and half and started from the bottom of the mountain!
The Trail
The trail starts off easy enough through natural bushland before the climb begins. There are sections of rock scrambling and it’s definitely a good workout. Coming down is a bit daunting in places but thankfully the rope railing is extremely helpful. Access to the first lookout is not as difficult as the going to the top. The hardest part is last 100 metres to summit. I didn’t get any photos of the last section of trail as I was too busy climbing and holding onto the chain!

Cooroora Mountain Pomona
It’s worth taking some time to visit the quaint township of Pomona where there are cafe’s, restaurants, parks and shops.
