This is an easy 6.8km circuit at Elanda Point, Lake Cootharaba. If you just do the Elanda circuit to Mill point the trail is 5.1km but I walked down to the lake from the carpark also. This is a dry weather track only as it isn’t enjoyable when wet due to swampy areas and mosquitoes. I went after a good dry spell and trail was nice and dry and no mozzies at the time so I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Activities: Walking, hiking, canoes.
Parking: Carpark at Elanda point on Elanda Pt Road, Elanda Point.
Lake
There is access to the lake from carpark at the canoe launching area. I saw lots of kangaroos around the area. Lake Cootharaba is a shallow salt water lake that is popular for canoeing, boating and kayaks.
History
A sawmill operated at Mill Point from 1871-1892 and some of the remnants are still there. Not overly exciting to see these but overall the walk is pleasant if you are interested in a little history of the area.
The Trail
The trail has a variety of bush with some areas swampy and best avoided during wet weather. I would recommend doing the trail anti-clockwise so that if you get to the back section of trail and it is overgrown, you can backtrack along the well maintained path. I was lucky enough to go when it has just been mowed so the grassy pathway was good.
