This is a moderately easy 2.4km loop trail around Emu Mountain and then up the small goat track at the back, off Hakea trail. The back trail isn’t the easiest option to climb up this small mountain but I do enjoy this loop.
Activities: Walking, hiking, running.
Parking: Carpark at end of Havana Road East, Coolum.
If you would prefer to avoid going up the narrow steep back track and prefer to stay on the main trail, then I would recommend Emu Mountain loop.
The Trail
From the trail entrance follow trail around base of Emu Mountain taking the third track on left to look around base. The trail follows along a creek bed before it veers around to left again where you need to keep an eye out for the narrow track up the mountain. The trail around the base of mountain is flat and easy. I recommend completing this loop anti-clockwise as its easier going up the narrow back track than down it.
Back Trail
The back track up the mountain is a little tricky to find as its very narrow and a bit hidden off the main track. You will find the entrance on left off main trail. It’s only a very short steep climb so isn’t too difficult. But as you can see from the pics below, it’s not well worn.
Views
Coastal views of Peregian and Coolum beach from the top of Emu Mountain.
